Question 1B

MR NAG

M - Media language - meaning
R - Representation - how ideas are shown
N - Narrative - how we construct stories
A - Audience - who is it for and how does it shape what we've made
G - Genre - type of thing you are looking at.

media language - I have used media language as I have made the title font the biggest on the page so it stands out taking up 1/8 of the page

representation - I chose my model because she fits in with the pop genre as she is young so will be something the target audience could look up to and aspire to be like. I wanted my model to have a lot of makeup as that is a common convention of a pop magazine. I wanted my model to have her hand in front of her mouth as though she is gasping to represent the magazine having a lot of secrets too tell. I only wanted to use a female model as my main image due to it mainly being females who read this magazine.

narrative -  the way my model is posing shows that she is supposedly shocked as she has her hand in front of her mouth making the reader wonder about what she could be gasping at making them want to read the magazine to get the gossip.

audience - Using pink and bright colours show that it is mainly aimed at girls. girls would also recognise this as it has a female main image which is a common convention throughout magazines. The ideal type of person who I'm selling my magazine too is young girls who are into pop music in the charts, and want to keep up with all the celebrity gossip, they also want to be the first to hear if any new groups or singers emerge so they can be the ones who tell there friends. they also would be into all the latest fashion

genre - Bright colours suggest that it is a magazine for younger people, also having a model with heavy makeup suggests that it is a pop magazine. the thing that i changed which doesn't fit common conventions of pop magazine is how I used numerous fonts instead of sticking with just one or two. Top of the charts also suggests that is in the pop genre

Theories

what the representation of a person means - As you know from your AS and A2 work, this includes the following: age, gender, sexuality, class and status, ability disability, race and ethnicity, national and regional identity. I must also describe concepts and ideas both political and cultural. we will need to discuss stereotypes, and male gaze. representation is also a political decision.

Narrative
barthez, toderov, propp, levi- strauss - narative theorist

Audience  theory
a mass audience and a neish audience. politics of the audience - who decides different areas of the audience. demographics - how the audience is made up.
